Winter Fest
...     For 2012... Friday, Jan 27... in Downtown Mineral, WA...

The W7JHS inspired Northwest 3870 AM Group's Winterfest West 2012 will be held in Mineral, Washington, but at a new location this time. Since the Mineral Lake Events Center no longer exists, we have moved the function to the Mineral Neighborhood Christian Center located at 127 Mineral Road North, across the street from Dick and Leslee's house. Doors will open Friday morning January 27th, 2012 at 9 AM. We can have the facility until mid-afternoon on Saturday at which point tables must be broken down and chairs rearranged for Sunday morning church services.

This is a large, well heated and comfortable facility and should suit our purposes nicely; probably an adequate number of tables, upholstered chairs, carpeted floors, easy ramped access and an excellent commercial kitchen.

Thursday night is pizza night at the tavern with FRIDAY being the big day for our event with swapping and chatting in the morning, hot dogs and burgers for lunch and our normal wonderful gourmet pot luck evening meal--breakfast and left overs for Saturday.

Some thoughts and answers to anticipated questions. Due to the change in venue, no cussin', drinkin' (alcohol), or smokin' (smokin's ok outside in the parking lot), no blaspheming either! We will not have access to the facility until Friday morning and there will be no sleeping over inside the facility. RV's will be ok overnight Thursday and Friday in the parking lot--no hookups. Coffee will be ready when the doors open, and if it is convenient, somebody stop off at a crispy crème and bring some donuts! We don't know about setting up a station at this point, but it might happen if we can figure out an antenna. Admission and tables are free, but a donation to pay for facility rent continues to be appreciated. Any money collected over basic event expenses will be disbursed to needy families in the Mineral area. A last thought about the tables we will be using--They are basically new and unmarred. If you think your equipment might scartch them, bring something to put between your gear and the table tops.

The Annual QRP Winter Field Day... AKA... Freeze Your Buns Off...  will be held on Saturday, Feb 4, this year.

The object of this ham radio event is the same as Regular Field Day held in June... but with a twist.  The operating RF Power output of each transmitter is less than 5 watts and held outside.

The total score of this non contest contest event is determined by these factors:
Power Output
Outside Temperature at the start of the event (the lower... then the bigger the multiplier)
CW vs SSB
Battery power and alternative power (i.e. solar, methane or nuke power, bicycle generator, and other wacky sources)
Make contact with the event host station, WQ7RP

W7DK intends to participate again this year to try and recapture the world QRP Winter Field Day championship.

Come on down to Pt Defiance Park's Owen Beach picnic shelter on Saturday morning... after 9:00 AM and thru the afternoon... and make some QSOs in the cold, but out of the rain.   W7DK will be operating CW and SSB.
